How to buy from Antique & Unique.

We aim to make buying a piece of antique furniture easy, with no hidden costs.

Delivery.

All items in our shop have UK mainland delivery included in the price, so there are no nasty surprises at checkout!

Delivery of most furniture items will be carried out by a two person team as standard. The exception to this is if the item is being delivered to a remote area such as the Scottish Highlands, West Wales, or the far South West, that isn’t covered by our ususal courier and another firm has to be used. These may be one man only deliveries and if so they will require your assistance to offload any pieces of furniture that are too large/heavy for one person to manage safely.

Delivery of furniture is to the ground floor only as standard, but our couriers are happy to help carry items between floors if required. They do however need advance notice of this to allow time in their schedule, so please notify us when you place your order if this is a service you will require.

Delivery of larger items such as furniture, to any islands or the Scottish highlands will unfortunately cost more and take longer to arrange. It will specify in the product description whether this applies to a particular item. Please contact us for a delivery quote prior to purchasing if you live in one of these areas.

If you would like an item delivering outside of the UK then please get in touch and we will look into the delivery costs for you.

Delivery Methods.

Smaller items:

All ‘postable’ items (including small items of furniture such as stools, boxes, small cabinets etc) that can be packaged and safely sent by post/courier, will be sent on a ‘standard’ delivery service such as Royal Mail, Parcelforce, DHL etc. All items will be sent on a fully tracked service and will require a signature upon receipt. All the couriers we use will forward tracking details to you by text and/or email once we dispatch the item, so please look out for these so that you know when to expect the parcel, and ensure someone will be available to sign for it. Please allow between 3 and 7 working days for delivery. If you require the item urgently please contact us before purchasing and we will try to accommodate your requirements. We are very experienced at packing even the most fragile of items so are confident your item will arrive safely, but if there are any signs of damage to the packaging upon delivery please ensure the courier marks it as ‘damaged’ on their system before you sign for it, take photos of the packaging before you open it, and then inform us straight away if the item is damaged upon opening the parcel.

Large items of furniture:

As standard these can only be delivered within the UK. If you would like to discuss having an item delivered to Europe please get in touch. Delivery will either be carried out by us or by our specialist furniture courier. Some items may be sent on a pallet (please note that pallet deliveries will be to the outside of your property only and as such this service is usually only used for garden furniture etc) or in a wooden packing crate. Delivery to the highlands of Scotland, or any islands, may unfortunately cost more and take longer to arrange. All items of furniture are fully insured against loss or damage whilst in transit. Please allow between 7 and 21 days for delivery of your item, though delivery to remote areas can take longer. Please check the item carefully upon receipt and inform us immediately if there is any damage. If there is any evidence of damage to the packaging please mark it as damaged on the delivery note before signing for it.

Additional notes regarding delivery of furniture:

Please ensure that you are available to receive the delivery. The couriers will not attempt to deliver the item without first confirming a delivery slot with you. If the offered delivery slot is not suitable then another time slot will be offered when they next have a driver in your area. On the delivery day, please ensure you can be reached on the delivery contact number provided at checkout in case the driver is delayed, or is having trouble finding you. For this reason, please ensure that the phone number provided for delivery is for the person who will actually be at the address to receive the item.

It is not usually possible to specify a delivery date at the time of order, as this is dependent on the routes the courier has booked in.

Our couriers have an excellent record for delivering items as planned, but inevitably problems such as traffic delays or vehicle breakdowns can occasionally prevent them making the delivery. If this occurs they will let you know as soon as possible and arrange another slot, but we would be grateful if you could inform us that the delivery hasn’t been made just so that we can follow it up with the courier as well.

Packaging.

We use recycled and sustainable packaging products as much as possible. This means that packaging may not be new, but we would rather try to reduce waste than have pretty boxes!


Payment Methods, Terms of Purchase, and Returns

Payment:

Payment can be made using credit or debit cards via our website, by bank transfer, or you can call during office hours to pay over the phone.

If you are collecting goods from our premises then payment can be made on collection if you prefer, either by credit/debit card, or cash. We do not accept cheques. You will not be able to complete the purchase online in this instance, so please call us so that we can reserve the item for you.

Please note that if the item is being delivered, using any of the delivery services detailed above, then the purchase must be completed either through the website or over the phone. We are not able to accept payment upon delivery for any items.

Terms of Purchase & Returns:

Please note that many of our items are antique, vintage or pre-owned and therefore often show signs of use/wear in accordance with their age (please see our terms and conditions for examples of what we consider acceptable wear and tear). We always try to photograph and describe items honestly, and highlight any areas of damage or repair, so please study the item photos and description carefully before deciding to purchase, as if you change your mind about an item that is ‘as described’ and wish to return it you will be liable for delivery and return costs. If you have any questions about an item, or would like to see additional photos, we will be happy to help. Completion of the purchase confirms that you have studied the item description and photographs in detail and are fully aware of the item condition, and that you have taken note of the dimensions of the item and (in the case of furniture) checked that it will fit inside your home. As such, returns at our cost will only be accepted if the item purchased has not been accurately described, ie, the dimensions given are incorrect or condition is not as expected.

Right to Cancel: Under the Distance Selling Regulations, you may cancel a distance contract to purchase a product / products at any time within 7 working days after the day you received the relevant product(s).

However, we offer a 14 day returns policy with return postage at your expense. If you wish to return goods you have a duty to to take reasonable care of them until you return them - goods must be returned in the condition they were sent, and we recommend retaining the packaging the item was sent in so that it can be re-packed in the same way for the return journey. Please telephone or email us within 14 days of receiving the item if you would like to return your order, and we will discuss how you can return them and assist with booking the collection if required. You will receive a full refund for the item sale price once it has been delivered back to us and is confirmed to be in good condition. Refund processing times can vary from 1 - 14 days depending on the original payment method. Outgoing delivery costs will not be refunded. If an item has been damaged whilst in your care, we have the right to refuse an item return or to deduct a reasonable amount from the original price.

If goods are damaged on their way to you we will arrange a full refund. Damage to goods must be noted upon attempted delivery of the goods and returned with the driver. Please make sure you have checked all items before signing to accept the delivery.
